Art Works Art School is a community based art school whose mandate is to introduce adults, teens and children to the enriching world of art in a positive, creative and healthy environment. We offer numerous and varied programs for students of all ages including teen portfolio development and children's after school and weekend classes, and an adult professional/personal development certificate program.
Art Works Art Gallery is housed on the main floor of Art Works Art School. Our light-filled gallery offers exhibition opportunities to students, faculty, and emerging artists. All group and solo exhibitions are curated and juried, and scheduled throughout the year with the exception of our summer term from July to September.
Volunteer and Mentoring opportunities are available to high school students needing community service hours, coop students, college and university students seeking experience for teacher's college or a variety of graduate programs in different fields. Limited paid internships are made available to select graduates of a college or university with previous volunteer experience at Art Works Art School and Gallery. We offer a wide range of opportunities as technicians, counsellors, teaching assistants, gallery and curatorial assistants and administrative assistants. You can experience Art Works once a week for 8 weeks (during our Fall, Winter and Spring sessions) or you can choose to help out in an intensive week long camp (with Winter Break, March Break, and Summer Camps). All volunteers must be enrolled in high school, college or university at the time of volunteering or applying to a graduate program.
AWAS (studio) volunteer tasks include class and material preparations, studio maintenance, assisting teachers and students with projects, installation for end of session exhibition of student work.
AWAG (gallery) volunteer tasks include selection and installation of work for exhibition, physical space upkeep, administrative and opening reception duties, creating promotional and advertising material.
AWAS (admin) volunteer tasks include working with clients, instructor-administration liaison, office duties, and overall administrative specific management.

Special Projects and Proposals Art Works Art School and Gallery welcomes outside proposals by intern or coop students and partnering organizations placing coop students which fall within the mandate of Art Works Art School and are suited to or can be worked into the guidelines, schedule, content and parameters of the overall programming of our school and gallery. All outside projects proposed by our partnering organizations must be shared and discussed collectively with the intern/coop student, mentoring instructors, administrators, and approved by the director of the school before consideration.

NOTE: We do not offer unpaid internships to graduates of a college or university. Limited paid internships are offered on a contractual basis. Opportunities for paid internships are only made available to select students with previous volunteer experience at Art Works Art School and Gallery.
