DRAW, PAINT, SCULPT & MIXED MEDIA
(7-11 YRS)
Time: 4-6 pm | Fee: $269
Instructor: Yusra Mukhtar

This class is ideal for the young student interested in exploring the challenges and possibilities of art techniques and materials, both traditional and experimental. We will cover drawing, painting, and sculpture through various art periods and styles in history. An additional component includes mixed media and printmaking. Each term focuses on a new subject matter. FALL: Drawing and Painting in dry and wet mediums. Subjects include portraiture, landscape, and still-life. WINTER: Introduction to Sculpture and Design. The urban environment, technology, architectural and industrial design are the focus of this term. SPRING: Introduction to printmaking techniques including relief, monoprints, silkscreen and collagraphs. Various studio applications will involve a combination of materials and techniques to create a mixed media finished work. Spring term projects will be based on the natural environment, human and animal habitat. Weather permitting; students will also be encouraged to work outdoors for some projects.

 

JUNIOR PORTFOLIO BUILDING FOR ART & DESIGN
(11-14 YRS)
Time: 4-7 pm | Fee: $339

A combination of traditional as well as experimental materials and techniques will be used to help the student develop challenging and engaging works required for art and design portfolios. This course covers drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking and 3D design with an emphasis on observation, concept building and practicing the formal elements of art and design. Exploration of work by contemporary artists is included and discussion and presentation of student work encouraged. At the end of this course students should feel more confident in their ability to express themselves through art and language. This course covers all portfolio requirements for application to Secondary School Regional Arts Programs.

SENIOR PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT FOR ART & DESIGN
(14-17 YRS)
Time: 4-7 pm | Fee: $339
Instructor: Nada Sesar Raffay

Use this class to further your studies in either art or design while exploring cutting edge projects. Students work in all mediums including drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking and 3D design. Discussion and presentation of student work will be encouraged. Examination and discussion of art work from major art movement of studio work. This course covers all portfolio requirements for application to University or College. Students must successfully complete 3 terms (Fall/Winter/Spring) to receive their AWAS Fine Arts Certificate.

STUDIO TECHNIQUES IN DRAWING AND PAINTING
(8-12 YRS)
Time: 4-6 pm | Fee: $269

Working from a variety of subjects, students will develop their studio skills with an emphasis on traditional approaches to drawing and painting. Fundamentals in drawing will include gesture, contour, composition, tonal values, and perspective and through painting students will learn colour mixing, application and descriptive use of colour. This technique based program will inspire the young artist and give them the tools they need to enhance their learning through the arts.

SKETCHBOOK DRAWING AND PAINTING CLUB
(7-11 YRS)

Sketchbook development is an essential part of technique and skill based learning. By exploring the work of traditional and modern masters, both time-honoured and experimental techniques in pencil, charcoal, conte, pastel, pen and ink, acrylic paint and printmaking will be taught through several step-by step projects. Children will work from observation and their imagination to develop a full and varied sketchbook of exciting, personalized projects with mixed media. Weather permitting; students may work outdoors with projects based on the natural environment, human and animal habitat.

Enter the dynamic world of art, craft and design in a creative and engaging way with an emphasis on process, skill development, understanding of materials and individual expression. Proper handling of materials will be emphasized while encouraging the use of new found art vocabulary and developing problem solving skills. Media includes drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, clay and construction with new projects each week and a new theme each term to accommodate returning students.

Have a great time learning to illustrate caricatures, characters with emotion using various illustration techniques and colour. Create your own animation with multi-media projects. Classes are designed for young illustrators, cartoonists and animators with humour and originality in mind. This Anime and Manga influenced program is inspired by the work of contemporary illustrators, animators and popular graphic novels. Students will develop their llustration skills through a range of lessons to include facial expressions and features, movement and expressive line work, two tone colouring, cultural nterpretation, ¾ point of view and more. Fall: Line, form, proportion, movement, technique.
Winter: Caricature and expression, use of colour and tone. Spring: Content development and story line.

This class will incorporate a range of drawing, painting, and 3D mediums. FALL: Drawing and Painting in dry and wet mediums. Focus on the face and figure, and techniques. WINTER: Introduction to different environments including urban, architectural, domestic, home, rural and wilderness. The figure contextualized in its place and habitat.
