Director’s Message

During our 23 years in operation, Art Works Art School has evolved and expanded its services to facilitate students of all ages, offering some of the finest and most varied art programs in the city. In 2009, after 13 years at our original location in the Bloor West Village, we purchased our new home at 238 Jane Street, just up the street from the old one! Our new location, in the beautiful and historic Baby Point neighbourhood, allowed us to create many exciting possibilities for our students such as exhibition opportunities in the new gallery, access to a resource centre, the Frank Hoff Art Library, created in memory of our long time student Frank Hoff, who donated over 100 art books to the school. With a back yard now available to us, proposals for an artist-in-residence opportunity were sought, and a unique mosaic garden eventually grew out back, created, developed and lovingly tended to by artist Bronwen Parker since 2010. Close proximity and easy access to the scenic Humber River parkland and majestic Old Mill Bridge inspired us to offer outdoor, Plein Air painting courses for adults. Over time, we built a comprehensive Mentoring Program that offers volunteer opportunities to high school, university and college students. Intent on giving back to the broader creative family, Art Works Art School also extended its support to post-secondary art and design students at OCAD University by awarding two $1000 scholarships to 3rd year students. Our recently formed partnership with the Ontario Student Awards Foundation and the Arts Access Fund, both charitable scholarship funds, allows us to reach out to students of all ages who may need support and assistance with their studies. Other services to the community now include events hosting, open houses, family days, workshops, and a retail art supplies and book store. Through our Outreach Program, Art Works Art School was able to expand its teaching capabilities to include both the public and private school communities by offering structured, integrated and diverse on-site art classes and workshops. All of our educators are fully qualified professionals with extensive experience and knowledge in their chosen discipline, and many have loyally remained with Art Works Art School since its inception in 1996.

Please join us on Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 1pm - 4pm as we proudly celebrate our 23rd Annual Open House and Student Exhibition! Refreshments will be served in the Art Works Art Gallery on the 1st floor. A free drop-in Family Activity is on the 3rd floor with the project theme “Noel Doodle Holiday Poster!”

We look forward to many more successful years of service in our community through our dedication and commitment to excellence and growth.
